South Dakota State University

The Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, was completed in fall 2014. The approximately $32 million facility provides year-round indoor training space for multiple Jackrabbit athletic programs, featuring an indoor track and specialized practice areas for baseball, softball, and football.

The complex’s baseball and softball training area features two 70 ft. ABC batting cages, providing dedicated space for athletes to develop hitting mechanics, timing, and consistency. These cages support focused practice sessions in a controlled indoor environment, allowing athletes to train regardless of outdoor weather conditions.

Seven custom motorized nylon vertical stack dividers provide flexibility throughout the training area. The retractable nets separate practice zones and help contain balls during hitting drills. Their motorized operation allows the space to be quickly reconfigured for different activities, maximizing the facility’s versatility for multiple sports.

Custom radial netting accommodates the facility’s layout while providing protective separation around designated training areas. An integrated football goalpost vinyl inlay allows multiple players to practice field goal kicks at once, maintaining the functionality of the football practice space while supporting baseball and softball training. Together, these specialized features create an adaptable indoor environment that efficiently serves the diverse training needs of South Dakota State University’s student-athletes.
